His remarkable career and groundbreaking multi-conga technique has had a powerful impact on countless drummers, percussionists, and music lovers. His contribution to Latin music includes a unique “melodic” approach to conga playing. Since 1970, Patato’s association with Latin Percussion has inspired many new product developments, worldwide tours, and recording projects.

The Patato Model Conga is just one example of the innovation brought on by this great musician and performer. Played by professional congueros the world over, these fiberglass drums were developed in 1978 after a recording session with the legendary “Patato” at the studio in Martin Cohen’s home. Patato’s own design required tall drums with a wide belly and small bottom.

Latin Percussion Matador Series Cuban Flag Conga

LP is pleased to introduce a complete line of congas, proudly flying the multi-banded flag of Cuba, an island that is the source of one of the world's finest jazz music styles - Afro-Cuban.

The series begins with the LP Matador Cuban Flag Quinto, an 11" wood drum with a Siam oak shell, 5/16" tuning rods, unique side plates, and Matador Soft Strike Rims for ease of playing. LP ProCare shell protectors cushion the drum from bumping and marring its neighbor. The head is hand selected natural rawhide. Of course, a tuning wrench is included.

The LP Matador Cuban Flag Conga is a standard 11 3/4" drum with Siam oak shell emblazoned with the Cuban flag. Soft Strike Rims, 5/16" tuning rods, LP ProCare shell protectors, unique side plates, and natural rawhide heads are featured.

The "big drum" is next, the LP Matador Cuban Flag Tumba. With its 12 1/2" diameter rawhide head, and robust Siam oak shell, it is capable of generating serious low frequencies. All other features are as above.

LP Classic Model Congas were the first wood congas introduced by LP. They have become the standard by which other wood congas are judged. The specially selected, kiln dried, environmentally friendly Siam Oak construction adds to the drum's overall warm tone, while the unique shell contour brings out the drum's mid and high sound ranges.

Topped with hand picked natural rawhide heads, these 30" tall congas feature Comfort Curve® II Rims, 5/16" diameter tuning lugs and reinforced LP Heart® Side Plates, each secured with a backing plate. Grammy-winner Luis Conte is an acknowledged master of percussion. His celebrated career includes touring and/or recording with some of the greatest names in contemporary music, including Madonna, Eric Clapton, James Taylor, Santana, Celine Dion, Barbara Streisand, Backstreet Boys, Ray Charles and Cuban legends Arturo Sandoval and Chachao.
